Elizabeth H. Getches

Attorney, Trial Section

Liza Getches always has been fascinated by people and the human condition. As a young person, her interest was expanded when she lived abroad, first in Costa Rica and later in Chile. For Liza, the opportunity to live in disparate cultures fanned the ambition to understand the struggles and issues facing the people of these countries. Firsthand experience of different ethnicities later led to formal training and education. With a degree in psychology and an inclination as a counselor, Liza chose to study law in order to apply her skills in social dynamics and to help people better resolve disputes.

As a litigator, Liza represents both plaintiff and defendant companies in complex civil matters that involve constitutional law, employment law, intellectual property, securities, and business disputes.

She is versed in employment law and experienced in defending business owners against individual and collective discrimination claims, equal pay, public accommodation, whistleblower statutes, unfair competition, and wrongful termination claims. Liza also manages disputes that involve misappropriation of trade secrets and other important confidential business information. Her other responsibilities include assisting clients with issues related to corporate fiduciary responsibility, fraud, copyright and trademark infringement.

Liza proactively works with clients to develop strategies to anticipate and minimize litigation. Her methodologies include policy and procedural compliance and implementation of on-site supervisor training programs.

A Colorado native, Liza leads an active outdoor lifestyle. She has trained and participated in various triathalons and running races, enjoys hiking with her husband, and maintains a close friendship with her family. Liza highly recommends Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner.
